26/11 carnage….need for awakening!

On the eve of the 26/11 carnage carried out by Terrorist on the Indian soil in Mumbai, Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh ledged the country won’t rest till the perpetrators of the crime are punished. He received ample assurances by the US President Barak Obama to meet this end. After all, US are equally interested in fighting terror anywhere in the world. Accordingly US have assured that its administration shall take up the issue with Pakistan to bring the accused to book.

26/11 carnage had sent a wave of anger and anguish among all Indians. On this day today, all together have been praying for peace of the departed souls and are expressing their solidarity with the nation. Time may fill the wounds yet the scars shall remain and these shall always guide us and our security mechanism to remain on toes always to fight and prevent recurrence of incidents of the kind.

The Mayhem of 26/11 is probably the worst event of the century that shall not be forgotten easily. The event left about 166 persons dead and about 244 injured in the brutal terrorist attack which shook the entire world. Its reminder frightens the soul to the hilt. And in the wake of psyche of the sort, organizing its anniversary is to renew the wounds inflicted by the happening.

If go over the incident that occurred on 26/11, most of us would have vivid memories of how we were glued to the TV sets late in the night hoping the worst would come to en end. It did not however end for three days. Mad rush of media and electronic channels trying to serve to its viewers the latest in the ‘episode’ was questioned by many. The coverage of the event though was unwarranted but was cherished every one and sundry.

Frightfully we watched how the city of Mumbai was taken to ransom by a handful of the terrorists. The city stood still. Anguished and frightened people helter skelter to place of safety. The incident filled the people with rage and a passion to set right, people especially the youngsters used the social networking sites to create discussions and pledging not to let the carnage forgotten.

26/11 attack highlights the alarming ease with which the radicals entered the city and carried out their operation. Except that a highly organized terrorist outfit is operating in the south Asia nothing concrete is made known.

The security forces fought back to clear the leading hotel and buildings of the terrorists and lost one senior officer in the course. The anniversary event would be held in the usual manner as other events are held. Pain and mourning of those who lost their kin in the terrorist attack would be recounted. Speeches, sermons would be delivered, but could such things provide real consolation to those who were affected on the fateful day. It is any body’s guess!

The terror attacks in any part of the world get attention. US are spearheading anti terror campaign in the world. All its efforts to contain terrorism have not resulted in hundred percent successes. In the joint declaration during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh, both countries have vowed to fight terrorism jointly. Both the World Leaders Prez Barack Obama and Dr. Man Mohan Singh have pledged to eliminate safe havens of the terrorists.

A resolution condemning the incident has been passed in both houses of Parliament. L K Advani raised a question about the compensation to those who had lost their kin in the carnage, but the event took an ugly turn when some from the opposition BJP tried to seek political mileage. Surprisingly these people never raised a point, comment or any question on the subject during the whole year that passed. 26/11 stood really sullied.

A big fight against the menace of terrorism needs to be launched and an awakening should be created world wide that survival of humanity depends on sane feelings towards everyone.
